Fiat G.50bis AS 1/72 Fly
As an enthusiast of almost all Italian aircraft, I find the Fiat G.50 aesthetically pleasing. It reminds me of a bit of a 1930s air racer gone military, so that brought me to the 1/72 Fly Fiat G.50bis AS. I don’t know how it stacks up against the G.50 resin SBS version, but I thought I’d give it a try.
It is a very straightforward build all out of the box with the addition of Albion Alloys pitot tube and 3D printed Breda/SAFAT gun barrels from the excellent Airone Hobby. I also added some wing lights and clear acetate card stock for the small side windows on the cockpit. I chose to depict the somewhat different Italian camouflage scheme for the 155 Gruppo aircraft from April 1941. Using Tamiya paint mixes finished along with pastel weathering sticks to add a little African desert flavor. Overall, the Fly kit builds out to be a nice model in my opinion, the fit is pretty decent although there could be more landing gear and wheel well detail offered for an increased level of realism. Otherwise, I would recommend it.
