Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc 1/72 Arma Hobby

F/Lt Karel Kuttelwascher became famous for his individual night attacks over France. In his Hurricane Mk.IIc coded JX-E achieved 15 kills and damaged 5 Luftwaffe aircrafts. The appearance of his Hurricane is still unclear, although the theory about the daytime camouflage with the emblem of the night reaper has definitely been abandoned. Based on available photographs, historical records, and facts, there are two basic theories about the color scheme. Both differ significantly, especially in the use of cockades on the fuselage. I chose the more probable appearance, which you can see depicted on the model. The base is black RDM-2 paint applied in field workshops to standard daytime camouflage. The photographs show that black was sprayed to the undercariage bays. So I also partially sprayed the bays with black. The decals are a combination of Techmod (from the kit) and DK decals.

Your 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Mk IIc night fighter is absolutely superb. The finish captures the mysterious and hard-worked appearance of Kuttelwascher’s famous “JX-E” perfectly, especially the subtle field-applied RDM-2 black over the original camouflage. I really like the thoughtful historical research behind your interpretation — the restrained weathering, partially oversprayed wheel bays, and careful choice of markings make the model feel both authentic and believable. The Night Reaper legend and the uncertainty surrounding the aircraft’s true appearance only add to the atmosphere, and you’ve managed to capture that beautifully. A fantastic tribute to one of the RAF’s most successful night intruder pilots….Gratitude to David and Vlad for this one 🙂
