Fouga CM.170 Magister 1/72 Special Hobby

Fouga Magister, one of the famous trainers and competitor of Czechoslovak L-29 Delfin. The kit is one of the first Special Hobby kits made by “mainstream” technology using metal molds. For my initial OOB build I selected a plane obtained by Irish Air Corps. The Fouga was a part of Silver Swallows aerobatic team and depicts the mount near the end of Fouga career in the Irish fleet.

The build was not easy and some fitting and filling with sanding is necessary. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage one of the critical stages. It was a middle piece of the canopy. It should be glued from three parts together and then put on to fuselage. In the end, I realised the canopy was little shifted and the overall geometry was not good. To cover that, I decided to open the canopy. The camouflage is quite easy and used decals are from Max decals sheet. For the first time, I used a fluorescent colour (Gunze) to mix day-glo orange colour.
Well, at the moment I have second Fouga in progress and the others are waiting in my stash 🙂

Excellent work and a very clever and effective solution to the canopy issue. Interesting Irish markings on such an elegant aircraft.
